Canada bus killer not guilty

Vince Weiguang Li, 43, after being diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, was found not guilty of murdering 22-year-old Tim McLean on a Canadian Greyhound bus on July 30, 2008. Li, a devout Christian and a computer engineer, immigrated to Canada with his wife from China's province of Liaoning in 2001. Tim McLean, a 22-year-old Canadian man, was stabbed, beheaded and cannibalized while riding a Greyhound Canada bus about 18 miles (29 km) west of Portage La Prairie, Manitoba traveling the Trans Canada Highway.

Li is a a computer software engineer in Beijing who immigrated to Canada from China on June 11, 2001 who worked at various jobs in Winnipeg, Thompson and Edmonton after his arrival in Canada from China. He worked in Winnipeg at menial jobs at Grant Memorial Church for six months to support his wife. In Edmonton 2006 he take up jobs which included service at a Wal-Mart, at a fast-food restaurant, and newspaper delivery.
Spare the rod of fears about wrongful convictions, concerns about the state taking the lives of individuals, and uncertainty about the death penalty's role as a deterrent for crime? Balancing the need to protect the public, the mental condition of the accused, the accused’s re-integration into society, and the other needs of the accused aren't an easy task.
Canada has abolished the death penalty on July 14, 1976. The last execution in Canada was on December 11, 1962. A good precedent for the abolition of capital punishment is the 1959 case of Steven Truscott, who was just 14 years old when convicted of a murder that he did not commit.. (On August 28, 2007, Truscott was acquitted of the charges by the Ontario Court of Appeal.)

Lover's penis severed by angry spouse

The barber's case has a preceding infamous New Yorker, John Wayne Bobbit  who allegedly mistreated his wife.  His Ecuadorian wife, Lorena, in June 23, 1993 cut off nearly half of his penis on grounds of cheating, abuse, forcing her to get an abortion, and other heinous acts. She threw the penis into a field and was later located after an exhaustive search by the police who then packed in ice, and delivered to the hospital where John Bobbitt was being treated.

According to testimony given by Lorena Bobbitt in a 1994 court hearing, he  was intoxicated after a night of partying and then raped her. Subsequently  John Wayne Bobbitt  was tried for and acquitted of spousal rape. The jury found Lorena not guilty due to insanity causing an irresistible impulse to sexually wound her husband. Lorena underwent a 45-day evaluation period at Central State Hospital, located in Petersburg, Virginia.  In 1995, after six years of marriage, Lorena and John divorced.

After the divorce, John continued to have run-ins with the law. He was reportedly arrested seven times for offenses ranging from assault to grand larceny. He appeared in a gimmick adult biopic of his own life, as well as a dominatrix video in order to pay his medical (a nine-hour operation) and legal bills. Eventually he began dating someone new, publicly claiming that they would remain abstinent until they married, but after a while he got thrown in jail for hitting her. Early in 1997, he became a minister at a Las Vegas church, but told Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" (1996) that a sequel to _John Wayne Bobbit Uncut_ (1997) was not out of the question.

In December 1997, Gallo made news when she was charged with assault for punching her mother, Elvia Gallo, as they watched television. She was eventually found not guilty of assault and her mother continued to live with her. In 2007, she was working at a beauty salon in the Washington, D.C. area and in the same year founded Lorena's Red Wagon organization, which helps prevent domestic violence through family oriented activities.

The Bobbitt case was one of the first cases that brought public attention to the subject of marital rape.

Greece on the brink of collapse

Conditions are already hard for business people in Greece, with the country in its fifth year of recession. Greece imports 40 percent of the food it consumes, nearly all of its oil and natural gas and much of its medicine. Greece runs a primary deficit - spending more than it takes in taxes and by itself it would be shut out of international markets and have no one to borrow from. There are no run on banks to withdraw money because many Greeks have precious little left in the bank. Many have been surviving on [$500] 400 euros a month, which has to cover tax, bills, food and medical costs."

Anti-austerity Greek leftist Syriza party, which was the second-most popular party in elections earlier this month, has grown even more. They are counting on the International Monetary Fund, the European Central Bank and euro zone governments who hold most of Greece's 250 billion euro debt decision to keep things going rather than drop the curtain on Greece's euro dream and absorb the losses themselves. Greeks plunged their country into turmoil by voting overwhelmingly on Sunday 6th May 2012 to reject parties behind an EU/IMF bailout and are defiant to do it again. Greeks say they want a rescue plan that would not hurt the poorest and middle class as much.Greeks want to be on an equal footing with other people and not just slaves of some countries as commented by a Greek worker. Public spending in Greece pension system is at its worse with 35 years of work to earn a full pension. 80% of wages in Greece are in pension payment and are paid out 14 times a year. Greeks get a pension calculated on the last five years of their working life, which tend to be the highest-paid. German, Italian and Portuguese pensions are based on wages worked over a lifetime. Spain bases them on the best 15 years of work.

A 52-year-old teacher in a private school in Athens gets 400 euros ($496) a month from the Greek government, part of her late mother’s state pension. Under the current system, she qualifies to receive the payment for life as the only surviving child of a deceased civil servant, provided she doesn’t tie the knot. Female civil servants with children under 18 can get early retirement. Unmarried daughters of state workers say the payment became a factor in staying single.

The Greek government has identified at least 580 job categories deemed to be hazardous enough to merit retiring early — at age 50 for women and 55 for men. Vasia Veremi may be only 28, but as a hairdresser in Athens, she is keenly aware that, under a current law that treats her job as hazardous to her health, she has the right to retire with a full pension at age 50. Greece’s patchwork system of early retirement has contributed to the out-of-control state spending that has led to Europe’s sovereign debt crisis. Greece’s pension system is unsustainable. Greeks won't give it up and the country, save tourism does not have businesses or industries that could drive a recovery by leaving Euro without its debt-cutting targets.

A Greek exit from the 17-nation euro zone, or "Grexit" risks turning the nation into what would be close to a failed state on the edge of the European Union, one of the most prosperous societies the world has ever known. The likelihood of a Greek exit from the euro is now so high that even political leaders committed to avoid it admit preparations are under way.

I just received an email of Boeing 797 and found out that it is untrue.................
 BOEING 797- blended wing passenger liner !!
It can comfortably fly 10,000 Miles (16,000 km) at Mach 0.88 or 654 mph (1,046 km/h)
with 1000 passengers on board !
They have kept this secret long enough.
This shot was taken last month by an amateur photographer.

Since 2006 the above hoax message has been circulating via email and online which is preposterous as denied by Boeing. Someone was having a bit of fun with Photo Shop perhaps. Boeing is not planning to build a 1,000 passenger commercial airplane dubbed the "797," based on the blended wing body (BWB) concept or any other futuristic concept. Instead Boeing is developing the 787 as the perfect match to help meet point-to-point routes demand. What is true, according to Boeing, is that Boeing Phantom Works, the company's advanced research and development organization, is doing research on the blended wing body design as a potential military aircraft.  Boeing has built a scale model to test its low-speed flying characteristics in a wind tunnel.  There are also plans (as of 7/13/07) to flight test a scale model.

Stunning Bird Structure Engineering

Someone emailed me this and I thought of sharing it here.............. Just how M A N Y trips would a bird have to make with that tiny little quantity of mud/clay it could carry? (and how far from the nest is the source?) How the heck does the bird come up with the windbreak/entrance design that shields th eggs/chicks from the elements. Nature has its magical ways I suppose!!
