The solar-powered air conditioner

Solar energy has always seemed the ideal power source for air conditioning. After all, the sun is generally shining when the air conditioning load is at a maximum! However the huge power requirements of conventional air conditioners make them impractical for solar power.

COOLMAX have developed, and are trialling in Adelaide and surrounding areas, a solar powered version of their tried and tested wall/window evaporative cooler.

SolCool's Millennia version air conditioners(evaporative cooler) can run entirely off a relatively small set of solar panels or from a regular power outlet. It also can run on batteries. The company sells it as an energy-efficient system.

An air cooler is basically a swamp cooler(evaporative cooler.). It cools dry air by adding humidity to it. You'd have to have an open window for fresh air supply, because once its cooled (saturated with water) the air can't be cooled any more. They are most efficient when the relative humidity is 20% or below. The maximum cooling effect is around 20 - 25 degrees. Air conditioners cool air by vaporizing freon. They are much more effective at cooling but are much more expensive to purchase and operate. If the humidity around your area is usually below 20%, an air cooler may work, but you have to have an open window and live with humid air all the time. A/C is the best way to go.VIA Read More at

It is a wishful thinking being that solar power alone could power something as power-hungry as an air conditioner with a " carbon filtration system and electrostatic dust collector but then we will never know what comes out next with
designers & inventors nowadays.

Thanks for the mention buddy!

Perhaps when they figure out how to capture the other 2 rays I won't have to get into a hot car?

:)

It is heartening to see that people are looking for energy saving alternatives to the a/c. At the very least, companies and homes can set the temperature a little higher. It is pretty bad when you have to wear a sweater inside a building in the summer.

Wow interesting! Pretty soon every thing will be solar powered or some alternative method for energy!
