At St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon,Thomas Beatie, the transgender man gave birth naturally on Sunday June 29, 2008 to a healthy baby girl.

Thomas Beatie lives in a former logging city in Oregon with his wife, Nancy Roberts Mr Beatie said he and his wife (The couple run a T-shirt printing company called Define Normal)claimed, is five months' pregnant and the story has caused a worldwide frenzy. Beatie, 34, a transgender man who was born in Hawaii as Tracy Lagondino, was a prominent gay-rights activist who found he identified with being a man. He underwent a sex change, which involved regular injections of testosterone, and having his breasts surgically removed (but keeping his female reproductive organs) and legally became a man. Nancy Roberts has health problems[had a hysterectomy due to severe endometriosis] and could not conceive, so Thomas Beatie stopped his twice-weekly hormone injections, allowed his periods to return, and tried for a baby. Now, the couple got access to a cryogenic sperm bank and purchased anonymous donor vials for a home insemination , Beatie says he is pregnant again and is due to give birth to a baby girl in July.

The first pregnancy was ectopic, and rarer still, with triplets. After surgery, Mr. Beatie lost all his embryos and his right fallopian tube.Michelle Garcia, an editorial assistant at the magazine, said The Advocate have verified the second pregnancy with Mr. Beatie's gynecologist.

The fact that even other transsexuals react with hostility borne the common reaction is to wonder how someone can identify themselves as male and yet embrace pregnancy.

Doctors have expressed concern at the possible effect of testosterone on the unborn child. A Los Angeles obstetrician, told ABC TV that it is crucial that Beatie doesn't take any testosterone early on in the pregnancy and later on which can cause male-type characteristics in the female baby.Robert Withers, a psychoanalyst who has treated transgender patients also worries about the confusion the child may later experience. Ethicist Margaret Somerville frown to Mr. Beatie's story speaks to the uprooting of the biologically natural family, a process that began with same-sex marriage.

Mr Beatie his wife claimed they are being discriminated by doctors, health care professionals, receptionists and most of Nancy’s family who doesn’t even know Beatie is a transgender.
